We’re back – from another extremely successful and heartwarming dental humanitarian mission trip! This was the ninth consecutive year your Aurora dentist and team travelled to Guatemala to give kids the gift of a healthier smile.

I’m very proud to share some of our achievements with you in this blog. In one week, we saw 349 patients and completed…

  • 813 procedures
  • 271 extractions
  • 535 fillings
  • 7 root canal treatments.

Each year, since 2012, our office has teamed up with Health Outreach, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing health services to people in developing countries. We go to remote parts of the country to help alleviate dental pain and offer educational information and preventive help to as many kids as humanly possible. (If you missed reading about last year’s trip, check it out here.)

One of the big challenges people in impoverished countries face is access to quality dental care. Guatemala is a beautiful place, but its people constantly face issues that negatively impact their health. For example, more than half the population lives below the poverty line. Since the country lacks infrastructure, children get sick from gastrointestinal and respiratory illnesses. The main dental issue is chronically infected teeth. Small cavities are ignored, leading to infection and the eventual loss of the tooth. Whenever we can intercept decay before it progresses, it’s very rewarding for our whole team.

I’d like to congratulate and thank my team for all their hard work! You know who you are. It’s so incredible to watch each of you at work, making a positive, long-lasting impact on the lives of so many children. They will forever remember your gentle touch and genuine care you showed them.

And of course, none of this would be possible without the support of Health Outreach. Their team truly cares about making a difference in the lives of others. If it weren’t for their vision and coming together, we might not be delivering this good news to you now. If you’re interested in getting involved with this fantastic group, I encourage you to check out their website today.

Want to hear more about our trip? Just ask us during your next appointment at Skyview Family & Cosmetic Dentistry! Our team would be glad to share their highlights with you.

And here’s a quote to share with you. We feel it encapsulates what it means to give back from the heart.
